What's in the box! (Cube Accessories Guide)
After close to a decade of cubing, I've picked up a few accessories that have transformed my draft nights. If you're looking for some inspiration let me show you what's in my cube box~ π
The Storage Chest
Massive capacity and super sturdy. This tool chest from my local hardware store has lasted me about half a decade so far πͺ Everything within this post is contained in this chest which allows me to require NOTHING from my players on draft night.
I admit the chest is not very aesthetically pleasing and pretty bulky. This is a trade off Iβm happy to make as I usually organise my cube between the homes of my friends and loading this into my car boot is never an issue. (Greater Melbourne, Australia is very much a car city).
The Cube Boxes
Two tool organisers from my local hardware store. Theyβre super light, durable, and cheap. These boxes house the cube, cube shells (enough space for the empty shells once you begin drafting), basic land/token/dice stations, and various other accessories I will detail further within this post.
What I love most about these organisers is that I can pull out each container and set up my stations wherever I need.
Like the Storage Chest, itβs not very aesthetically pleasing. Iβve tried other made-for-MTG storage solutions, however I havenβt found anything that meets the all-in-one functionality of these organisers.
Cube Shells
I use the Dragon Shield Cube Shells. These allow me to seed my packs, but if thatβs not your thing youβll still benefit from having your cube ready to draft BEFORE everyone arrives so that once itβs time to draft you can get straight into it and maybe shave 45 minutes off cube night.
If youβre interested in how I seed my packs I use a tweaked variation of Moakβs shuffle method:

Sideboard Management
Sick of having sideboards floating around in random assortment of piles getting mixed up with graveyards or exile zones? Want your players to actually use your tokens?
My solution are these cute little Ultimate Guard Boulders. I love these things as they split into two little open deck holders for easy access to your sideboard and tokens. I have 5 (which makes 10 holders for 10 players).
Tokens
Iβve played around with a different token solutions throughout the years but Iβve settled on printing custom tokens in the old border style. I organise them separated by colour.
β
Visually consistent
β
Super clear board state
β
No little marker flakes everywhere
β
No mid game doodling required
Players tend to find the path of least resistance so itβs mega important to have some kind of sideboard management (see above). Iβve been using these for about 6 months now and about 90% of my 20 players use them consistently.
Iβll probably make a guide for Card Conjurer in the future, however my process of making these can be boiled down to opening up Card Conjurer (one of the many mirrors), finding the token border, and finding an artwork from a long forgotten card (at least to my friends who are all post 2015 players).
Basic Lands
Pretty basic stuff. Iβve not much to add here other than look at this pretty island.
Dice and Counters
I have a tub of Chessex speckle D6 because they look rad af. And I have some super clear D6 for my friends that like something less ambiguous.
I have a pouchful of spin downs as well.
Finally I have a pouch with -D6 and these colourful counters.
The counters are super handy to represent things such as keyword counters, finality counters, βphase outβ, Figure of Destiny levels, energy, etc. I feel like I find a new use for these every time I run my cube. EVEN if you avoid keyword counters / energy etc I guarantee youβll still find some use for them somewhere.
Editorβs note: These have been really handy for new players too, as they provide visual reminders of new or challenging-to-master mechanics!
Timer
Usually I donβt run a timer but occasionally we need to keep to a tight schedule. Iβve got this little timer that you easily find online. I love the visual countdown ring which makes it super clear how much time you have left, even from from the other side of the table.
Playmats
19 playmats. You definitely donβt need this many playmats. Iβve just collected these over a decade. Itβs very nice though as a player to literally need to bring nothing but yourself to cube night.
Menu
A very simple menu that I picked up from IKEA.
